Rhine Falls could have been a bust. The falls are not high; they're not spectacular in the same way that Niagra Falls is. But what's intriguing about the Rhine Falls is the many, changing views of a tremendous amount of river water cascading over rocks. There are many hiking trails, a castle and celebrated restaurant to visit, and ample places to look down at the falls.
Rhine falls are in Neuhausen in northern Switzerland. They are a 15 minute downhill walk from the train station. Neuhausen is near the larger Schaffhausen, the county seat.
The castle Schlössli Wörth, which sits on the tranquil side of the Rhine, has been transformed into a fine restaurant. The medieval castle "Schloss Laufen" overlooks the falls and also has a restaurant; you can visit the castle and the belvedere for the fine views.
