Henri-Gaspard, who fought in the crusades in the early 11th century, was allowed to build a hermitage on the summit of the Colline de l'Hermitage. He was as good with the plow as with his sword, and his wine became known to many, who began to come to the hermitage for Henri's wisdom and especially some of his wine.
The hermitage was easy to find, as it was close to the prominent chapel shown in the picture. Since 1919 it has been owned by Paul Jabolet Aine and donates its name to Aine's Grand Cru Hermitage, "La Chapelle."
