Su Nuraxi di Barumini is a UNESCO world heritage site, being the best example of Nuraghe in Sardinia. Its name, in fact, simply means "the nuraghe."
The oldest part of Su Nuraxi, the central tower, is dated to about the later half of the 2nd millennium BC.
Su Nuraxi lies at the foot of the Parco della Giara, near Barumini, north of Cagliari. It is an area rich in things to see, including Giari di Gesturi, the plateau where a unique breed of horses called "cuaddeddus" roam freely.
A tour is obligatory to visit the Nuraghe of Barumini, but there are departures every half hour from the kiosk and bookstore on the site.
