On the Thursday and Friday before Easter Sunday, you'll find many expressions of religious faith in Sicily. In Realmonte, women shoulder the huge statue of Mary and take it through the streets at night, ancient songs are sung and the whole town shows up for the somber celebration.
In Agrigento on Friday, men carry the statue in the same manner, but in daytime.
