Pictures of the Interior of the Duomo of Siena, Italy

Get inside of Siena's Gothic Cathedral.

From James Martin, About.com

Siena's Duomo is one of the best examples of the Italian Gothic Cathedral. It was probably started in the 9th century, but the facade wasn't finished until the 14th century, having been interrupted by the plague years.

The Duomo of Siena features a Latin Cross interior with a large central nave. The Duomo is known for its polychrome marble pavement showing religious and secular scenes done between 1369 and 1547. The problem is, you won't be able to see it because they keep it covered. Fodors reports that they uncover it for the entire month of September, so if you're in Siena at that time, you should buy a Siena Combination Ticket and see the whole cathedral complex.
