Ticino for Everyone - Switzerland's Ticino Region for Disabled Persons
The Federation for the Integration of the Handicapped (FTIA) has published the first tourist guide of Ticino especially prepared for people with mobility problems. While there are only a few hotels in the region which are totally accessible for the motion disabled, the group has made a strong effort in mapping and planning itineraries which are accessible by car or public transportation.
The itineraries can be completed in one day, and the maps point out the most interesting places to visit from a tourist, cultural or scenic point of view as well as the main places offering accessible services, parking and toilets for the disabled, as well as transport, hotels and restaurants with wheelchair access.
You can access interactive versions of these brochures on the web. The first covers the Lake Lugano Region, and the other the Lepontine Valleys, the area around Locarno, Ascona and Bellinzona. From these links you can either use the interactive brochures by clicking on the elements (the map, for example) or you can click the animated carrier pigeon and get a copy of the print brochure sent to your home.
