Malgrate Castle - Picture of the Castle from the Borgo

malgrate castle, borgo, picture

Malgrate Castle: picture of the castle from the borgo.

James Martin
There were probably many fortifications developed on the hill Malgrate occupies, but the fortifications we know most about started around 1275. What we see today is a reconstruction including all the modifications up to around the 18th centuries. The hilltop effectively monitors the narrowest part of the Bagnone Valley.

The tower is 25 meters tall, and features a typical medieval overhanging guard walk.

The castle was given over to the Malaspina gang in the mid 1300s, and transformed into a residence for its new lords.
