If you've purchased a full fare ticket (either first or second class) you're eligible to use the lounges (in Waterloo station called "Le Salon" and the smaller "Le Petite Salon," open for afternoon crowds).

If your ticket has a magnetic strip on it, you can just send it through the machine, collect it and pass through. As with an airline flight (and unlike other train experiences) you'll pass through a security area, where your baggage will be inspected, then a passport control area.
