Monte Argentario on the southern Tuscan Coast in the Maremma is the wild Tuscany still covered by Mediterranean macchia, the typical Mediterranean ground cover found also in Sardinia and Corsica, and dotted with towers to guard the coastline. A panoramic road circles the island, and you can visit many forts and towers. There are many rental properties and large villas available for the tourist who wants to spend a week or more.
Once an island, Monte Argentario is now linked to the mainland by fingers of land called tomboli Sand and soil carried by the Albegna river along with the change of sea currents bridged the gap between the island and the mainland, making access easy for those with rental or lease cars.
