Travel experts warn you to keep your valuables close to your body in a moneybelt or security pouch. But it's nuts to keep undressing every time you need to pay for something small like a cappuccino--so you need some sort of place to stash your ready cash and receipts. The Rick Steves Lambskin Travel Wallet meets that need nicely.

Cons
  • It doesn't come with Euros stuffed inside

Description

  • It's inexpensive enough so that anyone might give it a try.

Guide Review - Rick Steves Lambskin Travel Wallet

Ok, the first thing you notice about this travel wallet is how incredibly soft it is. You can roll it up into a ball with very little effort. And it's light.

Calling it a wallet though is a bit of a stretch. It's really a great little change purse with an extra compartment for paper (money, receipts, notes to yourself). Never had a change purse? Well, you might need it in Europe, which uses coins exclusively for 1 and 2 Euro denominations. If you're in Italy, coins are the preferred method of exchange because merchants are always short of them for some reason.

Because of its size, weight, and softness, you can carry this wallet in your front pants pocket--a safer and less accessible place than your rear pockets for pickpockets wanting to remain unseen while they steal you blind.

The travel wallet comes with a card that is meant to be a "last laugh" intended for thieves who might lift it, suggesting they might want to try changing their profession. I'm not sure taunting people desperate and aggressive enough to rummage around in strangers' pockets is a good thing--but then I've never been a thief nor had my wallet pickpocketed.

So there you go. If you're a first timer, buy this with a moneybelt or security pouch. That's where you'll keep your passport and credit/debit cards and the bulk of your cash.
