The medal ceremonies are held in Torino's Pizza Castello. You've seen it on television if you've watched the Winter Olympics coverage. You may have seen pictures of Piazza Castello on the web, when it wasn't a controlled area with the addition of a modern, high-tech television stage and seating area for the medals ceremony. But I wanted to give you a look at how the modern Olympic additions blend (or deface) the classic piazza. Did Torino effectively meld the meaning of the piazza with the Olympic medal ceremony?
Security is tight. You can't just stroll through the piazza like you could before the Olympics. In fact, this is the tightest security I've experienced, even going in the afternoon on press credentials. I had to take out my camera and turn it on; same with me cell phone. Everything was checked and Xrayed.
