Bassano del Grappa is a small town on the Brenta river, famous for its Ponte degli Alpini, a wooden covered bridge designed by Andrea Palladio in 1569 and rebuilt by the Alpini, Italy's famous Alpine fighting force, after its destruction in WWII.
Bassano del Grappa was named for nearby Monte Grappa, which also shares its name with the famous beverage distilled from the pomace left over from wine making, another famous pursuit in the Veneto.
You'll want to spend at least one night in Bassano del Grappa to enjoy a drink and some music in the twin Piazze in the town's center, a lively place to spend time after dinner on a fine summer's eve.
