The Venetian gondola is recognized the world over. Flat on the bottom to navigate shallow waters of the Venetian lagoon, with an iron head for counterbalancing the gondolier's weight that is a stylized map of Venice itself, the gondola is an always evolving symbol of Venice--especially for tourists who pay dearly to ride in them.
Here we present a photo gallery of some of my favorite gondola pictures--not the steamy and evocative pictures of gondolas floating in the waves, but pictures of gondolas and gondoliers in action. The tourist's gondolas, for better or worse.
