Where I Went in Scotland

The Orkney Islands, are a must--also, take the Bus, you will not regret it. The Driver is a wealth of knowledge, and entertainment! I went with a friend who had already been to the Islands, but he had taken his vehicle and driven himself. I talked him into the Bus Trip, and he got to see, and hear all of this wonderful drivers stories, of which there are many. He thanked me for talking him into a great trip. There are a lot of surprises on the Islands, I do not want to spoil any, so will just say, "Go" you will enjoy!

What I did in Scotland

Took in the 2009 "Tattoo" and although it was so cold I thought I was going to freeze my na-na off, the wonderful warm blanket I had just bought at one of the many shops offering great buys on Scottish Tartans saved the day. And as usual the Tattoo was just great. You can also buy a disc of the past years, as well as the one you will watch when you go, makes a really lovely gift.

And of course after this there are the Braemar Gathering, with Royalty attending: pipers, and dancers, a whole afternoon of entertainment. Just a small tip for you drivers, do not stint on the cost of an "automatic" vehicle, it is difficult enough to drive on the narrow roads, without having to be constantly worrying about a gear-shift on the wrong side. And Never Pass Up A Castle. They are all different, and they are all wonderful! Enjoy!!!

Tips and Tricks

  • Take your own snacks, e.g. chips, water, juice, etc. as sometimes you can get a wee bit mixed up in direction, and lost.
  • Get a GOOD Map, and make sure you understand the road signs, they may not look exactly as yours do back home. At times it seems as tho the information is a hodge-podge, we had to circle a few times to get back to the right road. But, also make sure you have a lot of firm.....you will constantly be seeing great picture taking oportunities. Enjoy!
